Personal registrations

Tell us the letters you are after and roughly what you want to spend. Some combinations sit on DVLA's own sale list and can be bought outright; others are held privately and have to be negotiated, which takes longer and costs what the holder will accept.

We will tell you honestly which of those two you are dealing with. A plate that looks available often is not, and it is better to know that in the first conversation than after a month of waiting.

If you already hold a registration and want it on the car we are sourcing, give us the retention document or the current vehicle's details when you brief us. We handle the DVLA side so the car can be plated before it reaches you.

There are rules. A registration cannot make a car look newer than it is, the car has to be registered in the UK, taxed or on SORN, and available for inspection. We will check the car qualifies before anything is paid.

If you are selling a car and want to keep the plate, say so early. The registration has to come off before the car changes hands, and it is a good deal simpler to do that before the sale than to unpick it afterwards.

We can also place a registration you no longer want, though what it fetches depends entirely on the combination.
